はじめにPREFACE当研究所は,創立以来,我が国の主要都市の中でも中小企業の比重の高い大阪で,中小企業研究および企業研究の分野において先進的に活動を続け,日本では数少ない中小企業に関する専門研究機関として,国の内外から高い評価を受けています。情報化と国際化のメガトレンドの中で,国の内外と企業の規模を問わず,激しい環境変化に迅速に対応するために企業間の戦略的連携と情報ネットワーク構築が進展しています。当研究所は,このようなネットワーク・エコノミーの進展を視座に置いて国際的視野で中小企業及び企業研究の重要性を認識し,高度な研究機関になることを目指しています。アジアなど途上国をはじめとして欧米においてもその経済開発,経済成長戦略の中で中小企業の果たす役割が大きく見直され,中小企業研究の重要性が国際的に論じられています。その目標を達成するために学内外の研究者の協力を得て共同研究を組織化し,研究の高度化を推進して,併せて,多様な個人研究を一層充実させ,研究促進を図っています。当研究所は,研究の多様化や高度化を促す見地から,関西における中小企業研究の支援や海外研究者との学術交流を展開するために門戸を広く開き,研究の活性化をおこなっています。また,研究活動の社会的貢献という視点から,研究者のみならず,行政機関や産業界の人々との交流の輪を広げ,知と情報の磁場を目指しています。当研究所は,中小企業研究,企業研究,産業構造研究等に関する資料を積極的に収集し,複写サービス,レファレンス・サービスを学外にも提供しています。当該分野の資料群の充実は,内外の研究者の評価が高く,関連学会の研究活動に寄与しています。Institute of Small Business Research and Business Administration(ISBR) has been a leadingresearch institution in small business studies and business administration since its establishmentin 1963. ISBR is located in Osaka where small businesses have more presence than any othermajor cities in Japan. ISBR is highly rated as one of a few research institutions specialized insmall business studies both domestically and internationally.ISBR aims at leading small business studies internationally in the era of globalization andinformation revolution. Strategic alliance and information networks are some of the options thatsmall enterprises are eagerly pursuing currently. Research projects of ISBR are based on therecognition that small businesses become more important as the network economy develops.The role of small businesses in economic developments and developments strategies has beenrediscovered in recent years. Success and failure of Asian economies and some other developingcountries shed light to the decisive role of small business in economic developments. Rapidexpansion of information-technology-based industries in the United States, Europe, and othercountries also call researchers’attention to the role of small businesses.
