My Classes
In my Japanese Economic History course, I first introduce the perspective of the late Dr. Iwao Kokusho, founder and the first president of our University. The study of Japanese economic history focuses on Japan's social and economic progress since the Meiji Period (1868-1912) to the present day.

In my Regional Cultural Studies course, I introduce the concept of keisei-saimin (lit. governing the world and saving the people), the Chinese phrase from which the Japanese term ";keizai"; (economy) originated. Classes also highlight the lifestyles and cultures of various regions in the world by showing videos and inviting lecturers from outside the campus. Please note that I begin my classes on time, and strictly ban chatting or using cell phones during the classes.
My Research Programs
I have long been committed to studies of agricultural histories in Japan and other Asian countries. In addition to studying literature, I have conducted field studies, visiting various places in the world including China, South Korea and many countries in Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas, in addition to various places in Japan. Visiting so many places, I have found that agricultural people anywhere in the world maintain a sense of awe toward nature and gratitude for the earth's natural blessings. I also hold study meetings with farmers and am involved in fresh-from-the-farm campaigns. Through these activities, I discuss with farmers about the future of Japanese agriculture.
