Introduction
88 years ago, the school was founded here in the greater commercial city of Osaka.
The Osaka business community was determined to establish a school in the city in order to develop talented manpower resources who could step up and support the future of the nation.
In the early 1930s, Osaka was a very vibrant metropolis, the 6th largest city in the world with a population 2.1 million that even surpassed Tokyo.
What was the mindset of students back in those days?
What did the instructors think of their students? How did they go about managing the school?
That was 88 years ago, and today we are looking 12 years ahead to the school's 100th anniversary in 2032. It is time to implement a new phase in the university's history.
Why was Osaka University of Economics established in the first place? What was the mission of the school, and how would OUE best contribute to society in the years ahead?
Let us go back to the beginning and reexamine the school's founding philosophy.We will chart how we are going to proceed in the years ahead by highlighting OUE's philosophy, mission, and vision, and while defining the university we want to become on the 100th anniversary in 2032.

Striving for Number 1 in connectivity, Osaka University of Economics has built up an extensive network of links spanning the campus and connecting the community at large. By broadening our vision in the years ahead, exciting new developments will be integrated into the curriculum, and
new solutions will be discovered and implemented. By sticking to this policy, we know that OUE will develop truly exceptional graduates who will have a significant impact in all the diverse fields of society.
OUE is thus working together with students to build a place of "emergent wisdom based on sustained learning through life" ."Sustained learning through life" is a core value students retain after graduating from OUE that continually renews their intellect all through their later life. "Emergent wisdom" derives from interaction among all the diverse things learned at university and goes into the creation of new values. OUE is also strongly committed to strengthen ties between industry and the academic community through establishment of the Institute of Small Business Research and Business Administration.By bringing together and unifying the voice of the community, this revitalizes the relationship between students and the local community. We have also moved to create a space on campus where students and faculty get together, meet face-to-face, and spend time together. Leveraging this new connectivity by setting up places on and off campus that provoke diverse thinking and modes of living through networking, the goal is to create sites of emergent wisdom.
Our mission is to develop exceptional graduates who bring diverse values and steadfast convictions to society. OUE is committed to the education of next-generation citizens, who will soon take on responsibility for the world.
